Actually, the color literally comes from blood; animals’ blood. A by-product of butchering animals is a great deal of blood. People were very practical back in the old days and didn’t like to see anything go to waste. Somebody, somewhere long ago got the idea to add the blood to the other ingredients of the paint used back then and found that it added some good qualities that made the paint better.
No, really. Look it up.
red lead oxide paint
preserved the wood, prevented mold growth
we cant use lead, and the alternative modern preservatives are better and come in all colours
because of the shortage of paint and its more rust proof I believe and it looks nice
